Your are not weird— you are awake. Yes, I am married to a wonderful man. At the same time, I do agree that traditions like that are patriarchal and a form of control. I did not wear white— instead I wore purple and gold.

Your poem is fresh with contrasts. It had my heart racing. Noir/ white, free will/ patriarchal, richer/ poorer, sickness/health—

The life of a woman ebbs and flows like a wave…

Thank you for the kind praise, Ericajean.

The literal, traditional "ceremonial" concept of marriage irks me, not so much the idea of being married.

I love your color choices! Purple is the universal color; it goes well with ANYTHING. x.

Not weird. I would find it funny, how people romanticize 'traditions' and the money they spend on weddings and related Insta-celebrations, if it wasn't so tragic. Diamond chains, indeed.

I miss highlighting. This was heart-breakingly brilliant.

I hate the term "Wedding Season", I believe it's Spring.

I've been to three weddings and they were all bullshit. Thank you for the com-pli-ment, sweet one.

The word betrothed has always sounded like punishment. Not weird at all in your thinking. Then again, I’ve never worn a white dress. I scoff at purity. 🤣

I’m going to have to come back for “The Stigma.” I can tell by the image I’m going to need a cigarette and sandwich after. 🤣

Betrothed, yes! It’s been romanticised in modern times, the original definition was closer to enslavement.

White washes my skin tone out, so I’ll never be in a white dress either.

Ha ha, the image is quite sexy on that one! 🥵🥵🌪

You may not possess me. Or so I think... until.... my fingers curl around the ball and I pull on the chain.

Exactly, my dear. How/why do these traditions still stand up in Western societies?! Marriage is *literally* founded on slavery and ownership.

Ah, weddings and marriage, like most traditions, mean something different to everyone.

Times change, society changes and people change.

Of course! I just hold some disdain for the “sanctity” of it all.

A personal peeve, perhaps. Shotgun weddings at the courthouse sans religious doctrine = that’s something I could get behind 😂😂🖤🌪.

Lol. Indeed. Wedding should be everything the two people committing to each other want. Everyone else should keep their opinions to themselves or piss off.
