I felt every line of your poem! I’m also 5”2, have thin and fine hair, pedigree rodent ash blonde, flat chested and big bottomed. Society has made us so critical of ourselves that 94% of women in the global north are dissatisfied with some part of their body.
A friend and I were talking about this just yesterday. Can you imagine what society would be like if nobody ever saw their own reflection? Can you imagine?
I can ONLY imagine! At my age, I still - I still make sure to wash my hair and have my lipstick on when I am sick or before surgery. I have had 10 surgeries in the past year and a half and each time I worry about how I will look. I think "My God! Will this ever go away?!!!! I don't think it will, I am trained too well. But if we had never seen ourselves in a mirror, I wonder if we would fight to? Or feel a need to? Food for thought. Thank you so much for reading and commenting.
Edward, I want to thank you for including my poem, Perils Of A Woman. I am humbled and feel very honored to be included in this group of poets on your page. To @Melanie Cole,
@The Dope Doula, and of course, Edward @BlackCoffeePoetry - honored to be published alongside you all! Incredible poems you all wrote. Incredible.
"joy sealed in jars I cannot open..."-- man, what a great devastating line!! 🚀
I enjoyed them all-- well done, troika!! 👍👏😊
Triple shot of espresso. I'm in heaven.
Love Perils Of A Woman
Thank you so much Steve! You made my day!
My pleasure!

Sounds like a chemistry mixture. Amazing pieces and the poets are out of this world!!
It does doesn't it! Edward is the head chemist...so talented
Three special women 💄💄💄🖤
❤️❤️❤️
@The Dope Doula - these lines:
I wander these rooms echoing with absence,
joy sealed in jars I cannot open,
inspiration buried beneath old newspapers.
Hours split and drift
***How many times I have felt this. "joy sealed in jars I cannot open"
A brilliant line and so true to the human condition at one time or another. ❤️
Thank you, Laney.

Those last two. Phew. So powerful.
Experimental writing, confessional poise, and an ode to women.
What's not to love?!
